Case study: Nursery School

Question 1

How has Classroom Monitor helped your staff?

The tracking sheets filled in by staff allow them to see at a glance which learning objectives need to be incorporated into future planning as objectives that are untaught or that children have struggled with are highlighted. This is a task that would otherwise be more difficult in our cross curricular approach to teaching and learning.

Question 2

How has Classroom Monitor helped you as Senior Management?

There is a great deal of data that can be retrieved from the system to support curriculum co-ordinators and the senior management team. Perhaps the greatest value comes from the fact that Classroom monitor uses the teacher's monitoring of learning objectives to create a clear picture of progress against National Curriculum levels.

Question 3

When you have needed help with Classroom Monitor how helpful has the technical support been?

The technical support team have always been very helpful, talking me through any problems I have encountered. They don't even laugh at me when I ask stupid questions.

Question 4

Would you recommend Classroom Monitor to other schools? And what is the one thing that you would recommend above everything else?

I would recommend classroom monitor to all primary schools. I would say that to gain the maximum benefit of the system there needs to be a commitment from all staff to keep their tracking up to date.

Question 5

What has the reaction been from other parties to Classroom Monitor? Eg Ofsted/Parents/Advisors/Governors etc

We make several references to classroom monitor in our SEF. Governors can see very clearly that the tracking of pupil progress takes place in a systematic way and that it is easily managed by class teachers.

Question 6

Is there anything else that you would like to add regarding your experiences of Classroom Monitor?

The use of Classroom monitor provides us with a clear focus for the kind of activities teachers should be engaged in during their PPA time. This leads to a very clear picture of progress and attainment, of the coverage of key learning objectives and provides a picture of those areas that will need to be focussed on in future school improvement planning.
