Using Classroom Monitor: Secondary

Recording assessments – The Classroom Monitor markbook

At Prime Principle, we believe in making things work for you, in APP assessments that save you time and are more effective than other methods.

Classroom Monitor is simple; each teacher records their pupils’ progress against learning objectives using an online markbook which is laid out with all the APP criteria. The markbook is as easy as a piece of paper to use and uses a really clear traffic light scheme, it saves time as you can group block targets and assessments.

The markbook scores pupils progress and dates assessments, which feeds into tracking either using Classroom Monitor or by linking into your MIS system (SIMS, Integris etc). This gives you a consistent school wide approach to your Teacher Assessment and you can analyse all the information in the markbook, allowing you to compare cohorts, by class, ethnicity, gender and much more.

You can set targets both numerical and 'next steps' to share with pupils and all of this comes from the simple traffic lighting in the markbook. You can also attach evidence to assessment, and share that evidence with pupil or with parents using our new online reporting tool.

We can also help with keystage 2 - 3 transition. Classroom Monitor began in primary schools and we have over 1500 primary schools across the UK using us. If your feeder primary schools are using Classroom Monitor all their data can automatically transfer direct to your Year 7 teachers – helping you to make more effective use of assessment data, plan effectively for continuity of learning and ensuring as smooth a keystage 2 - 3 transition as possible.
